THE THIRTEENTH GUEST

Rod Beaumont recounts stories based on 65 years in the South African Bushveld. It is a story about paradise which very few people have been lucky enough to experince for an entire lifetime. The story begins with an old world introduction going back to the family's raw pioneering roots in 1926 long before the invention of long life milk. It goes on to recount how the original camps were built in what was an almost inaccessibly remote place. Visualize unfenced bush camps with evening camp fires and hurricane lights. Rod weaves a magical picture of the lowveld and spices the book with numerous hilarious stories. Stories like the "Bubble Gum Mine and the Unfaithful Teeth" and the "Drunken Wasp" will entertain you. Interspersed are some equally dramatic and frightening tales of encounters with a lions, elephants, hippos and snakes to mention just a few. If you want a glimpse of South African Wildlife this book is absolutely a must read. You will be captivated, you will laugh and sometimes you will cry or at the very least you will have a lump in your throat. Above all, you will not put this book down from page 1 to the end.
